When an Ordinary Corrugated Box Is the Right Choice
Corrugated boxes are one of the most efficient packaging technologies ever developed. They are lightweight, inexpensive, recyclable, easy to source, and entirely appropriate for millions of parcel shipments every day.
The problem is not that corrugated boxes are inadequate. The problem occurs when a shipment's requirements exceed the capabilities of the particular carton and packing method being used.
Lighter Contents
Conventional cartons are ideal when the product weight does not place excessive stress on the container walls, bottom, or seams.

Products that tolerate routine parcel handling may not require a reinforced structural enclosure.

Where Ordinary Cartons Can Become Less Predictable

The Middle-Weight Shipping Problem
One of the most important applications for structured parcel packaging is the middle-weight shipment: goods that are substantially heavier or more demanding than ordinary e-commerce parcels but still potentially compatible with parcel networks.
This frequently includes shipments in the approximate 50–150 lb range. That range is not a universal carrier rule. Actual eligibility depends on carrier, service, dimensions, destination, contents, and other requirements.
But it represents an important packaging problem: as shipment weight rises, ordinary cartons can become less predictable while the traditional response is often to move immediately to a pallet or wood crate.

Which Packaging Should You Use?
Start With the Item
Consider weight, dimensions, fragility, value, density, shape, replaceability, and sensitivity to shock or vibration.
Consider the Transportation Environment
Determine whether the shipment will move through parcel, air cargo, LTL, dedicated freight, international, or another transportation network.
Determine the Structural Requirement
Ask whether an ordinary carton provides enough rigidity and protection, or whether a stronger enclosure is justified.
Don't Over-Package Automatically

Does Kübox require ISPM 15 treatment?
Kübox does not use an untreated solid-wood crate structure. ISPM 15 phytosanitary requirements primarily apply to regulated solid-wood packaging used in international trade. Other destination, carrier, and customs requirements may still apply.
Does a stronger outer container eliminate the need for cushioning?
No. The outer container and internal packaging perform different functions. Fragile goods still require appropriate cushioning, separation, restraint, and specialized protection where necessary.
