Protective packaging is a system. For heavy, fragile, valuable or technical items, successful packaging depends on both the strength of the outer container and the protection provided inside it.

Parcel Weight Limits and Packaging Capability Are Not the Same Thing

Major parcel networks can transport individual packages weighing substantially more than an ordinary consumer shipping box is typically expected to handle. The fact that a carrier accepts a package by weight does not mean that a conventional taped corrugated carton provides the structural protection appropriate for the shipment.

Kübox is a commercially available packaging product offered in multiple standard configurations and sizes. For many applications, a customer can select an appropriate standard Kübox, provide the necessary internal cushioning and restraint for the product, pack the shipment and place it directly into the parcel network.

More Than Heavy-Duty Corrugated

Kübox is not simply a stronger taped shipping carton. It is a structural container system built from multiple engineered components working together.

Triple-Wall Corrugated Panels

Heavy-duty corrugated fiberboard forms the primary walls of the container while maintaining a substantially lighter structure than traditional wood crating.

Engineered Paper Profiles

Laminated structural paper profiles reinforce the container and create a rigid internal skeleton around the shipment.

Hubs & Locking Pins

High-impact corner hubs and locking pins mechanically connect the structure without conventional crate-building tools.

Replaceable Components

Individual components can be replaced when necessary, supporting reuse and extending the service life of the container.

Engineered and Tested for Transportation Forces

Heavy parcel shipments encounter more than static weight. They are exposed to impacts, vibration, compression, drops, shifting forces and repeated handling throughout distribution.

Kübox has been evaluated through ISTA and FedEx test protocols, independent compression, vibration, drop and impact testing, and instrumented real-world parcel shipments.

Testing has included ISTA 1A, ISTA 3A, ISTA 3E and 6-FEDEX-A protocols. Independent testing has also included compression, random vibration, rotational drop and incline-impact evaluation.

In one independent test configuration, a 997 lb gross palletized load was evaluated and compression failure occurred at 5,314 lb. These results describe the specific tested configuration and should not be interpreted as a universal load rating for every Kübox size or application.

Real-world instrumented parcel shipping has also recorded multiple handling events exceeding 3g during a FedEx Ground shipment, providing additional field insight into the forces encountered within actual parcel distribution.

The appropriate packaging system depends on the item's weight, dimensions, fragility, value and sensitivity to shock, vibration and movement. Kübox is used across applications where ordinary packaging may not provide sufficient structural protection.

Protective Packaging That Supports Parcelization

Some products traditionally move by pallet, LTL freight or wood crate not because the transportation network requires it, but because ordinary packaging does not provide sufficient protection for parcel handling.

A stronger but lightweight structural container can allow appropriate shipments to move as individual parcels rather than automatically defaulting to heavier freight packaging.

Outer Strength Does Not Replace Internal Protection

A strong shipping container is only one part of an effective protective packaging system.

Fragile, valuable and technical items still require appropriate cushioning, centering and movement control. Depending on the product, this may include large-cell bubble cushioning, engineered foam, blocking, bracing, anti-static materials or other application-specific protective materials.

The objective is to prevent the item from contacting the container walls and to reduce movement while allowing the internal protective materials to manage shock and vibration.
